Trump Postpones G7 Summit, Wants More Countries to Participate | NOW

US President Donald Trump has postponed the G7 summit because he believes other countries should be able to attend. The 46th edition of the summit was supposed to take place in June, but Trump now wants to organize it in September or later.

Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union participate in the summit. Trump, however, believes that this guest list is not representative of what’s going on in the world. He wants to involve Australia, India, Russia and South Korea in the summit.

A physical G7 was canceled in March due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Then it was decided to continue with a video conference. Now Trump seems to want to do a physical version in September.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel already canceled the event last week. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refuses to support Trump’s plan for a physical meeting because he has too many health concerns. French President Emmanuel Macron is behind Trump’s plan, according to the White House.

Trump says he wants to talk to the G7 about China. The president broke ties with the world health organization WHO on Saturday, because China would have too much influence in the organization. Trump also announced an entry ban for some travelers of Chinese nationality.
