The former American president Donald Trumpcharged with attempting to reverse the result of the 2020 presidential in the state of Georgia, pleaded not guilty, according to a court document filed Thursday. This is the fourth criminal case for which the magnate, who is running for the White House again and remains the favorite for the Republican primaries. A date for his trial in this case has not yet been set.
Donald Trump and 18 others, including his former lawyer Rudy Giuliani, were charged in mid-August with unlawful attempts to reverse the result of the 2020 election, won in this key state by current Democratic President Joe Biden. The law on organized crime, used by the prosecutor in this case, provides for sentences of five to twenty years in prison.
Negligent management
In this case, Donald Trump had to go last week to an Atlanta prison to be put on file, a first for a former American president. There he was subjected to a passport photo before quickly leaving. The ex-president indicated in the court document that he waived his right to appear before the judge and should therefore not travel to Atlanta again.
The septuagenarian is also accused in New York of suspicious payments to a former porn actress, and by federal justice of electoral pressure during the 2020 presidential election, as well as negligent management of confidential documents after his departure from the House- White. The former president has pleaded not guilty in all of these cases.
He still blames Biden
He systematically attributes his legal setbacks to the Biden administration, which he accuses of “electoral interference” to block his way to the White House. Joe Biden is also a candidate for the next presidential election. “I did nothing wrong” by questioning the results of the 2020 presidential election, hammered the tribune.
The stormy Republican is in any case preparing to experience an extraordinary year 2024, between the electoral campaign and several trials, in March and May – a calendar which could still evolve. The presidential election will be held in November. Paradoxically, each legal twist brings him millions of dollars in campaign donations, paid by Trumpists convinced that he is the victim of a political cabal.
