Sources familiar with the audio recording said the document belonged to the Pentagon and dealt with a potential attack on Iran. The meeting, they said, took place in July 2021 at the Trump Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Then Trump allegedly met with two people who were working on the autobiography of former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows. Sources noted that these people did not have access to classified information.
The tape undermines Trump’s argument that he declassified all documents after leaving the presidency.
Secret documents scandal
In August 2022, the FBI raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and found secret documents there that he did not turn in to the National Archives when he left office. Later, Trump was served with a subpoena due to one of the cases of storage of such documents.
Later, documents marked “secret” were also found in the home of current US President Joe Biden in Wilmington. Biden said he was “surprised” by the find.
