Trump Organization CFO charged with tax fraud

New York

Now the family business of the elected president is on the collar – what does this mean for Donald Trump?

In New York, the long-time CFO of the Trump Organization is due to be charged with tax fraud on Thursday. This reports the “Wall Street Journal”. The real target of the investigative authorities is the former American president.

The investigative authorities are serious. On Thursday, the long-time chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, the family holding of the elected American president, will be charged in New York. Local prosecutors accuse 73-year-old Allen Weisselberg, who has worked for the Trumps for almost four decades, of tax fraud. An indictment against the Trump Organization is also possible, reported the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

The public prosecutor’s office accuses Weisselberg and his employer of not having lawfully accounted for and taxed fringe benefits. The Trump Organization allegedly paid the school fees for the Weisselbergs’ grandchildren, who attended a renowned private school in New York City. This is a hefty sum of money, given that Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School charges 55,000 dollars per school year and child.

The real target of the investigation is not the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer, but the former president. The charges against Weisselberg are merely a means to an end. Prosecutor Cyrus Vance and Attorney General Letitia James, who have joined forces, want to force the CFO to testify against Trump. The investigators suspect the former real estate speculator, for example, that he was not so careful with the valuation of his land. So far Weisselberg seems to be resisting the pressure.

Trump speaks of politically motivated investigations

The Trump Organization, in turn, takes the position that the investigation would be tantamount to a “witch hunt”. An indictment against the company, which owns hotels, golf courses and commercial buildings, among other things, is pure chicane. Normally, only the employee would be charged with similar tax fraud cases.

The elected president finally claims that the investigations against him are politically motivated. Instead of prosecutor Vance and Attorney General James – both members of the Democratic Party – focusing on indicting murderers, rapists and drug traffickers, they wanted to destroy his reputation, Trump wrote in a recent statement.
