The former president was not impressed by the superstar’s big live comeback during the Super Bowl on Monday. Even before she went on stage, she heard it from Trump.
It has been several years since we last saw Rihanna (34) live, but this week she was back with hits after hits in America’s most watched television concept.
During the performance, the artist also made a move (which you can see at the top of the video) that led to fierce speculation about whether the superstar is pregnant. Which was confirmed about 40 minutes later.
The break feature has been hailed by several, while others have been less enthusiastic. One of the biggest critics would turn out to be former US President Donald Trump.
“Epic fail: Rihanna gave arguably the worst halftime show in Super Bowl history,” he writes on his own social media platform Truth Social.
Also in the time before the American football party, Trump lashed out at Rihanna:
“Without her stylist, she would be nothing. Bad at everything, and without talent,” he wrote about her.
The outbursts are perhaps no surprise from a man who has never held back against his critics.
In the post from Monday, he referred to Rihanna as a woman who has “insulted half the nation […] with its foul and derogatory language”.
He is probably referring to an Instagram post from August 2020, where Rihanna poses next to a wall with the tag “Fuck Trump”.
The Super Bowl is America’s biggest TV broadcast with around 100 million viewers. In the past, artists such as the Rolling Stones, Lady Gaga, Prince, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake have performed as part of the halftime entertainment.
You can see the whole the broadcast on VGTV.
