Trump leaves hospital and wants to join debate next w …

US President Donald Trump left the hospital around 6.30 p.m. local time (0.30 a.m. in Belgium) on Monday, as planned. Trump still wants to debate Joe Biden next week, according to his spokesman.

Trump, 74, who tested positive for the coronavirus, left the hospital on foot, walked down a flight of stairs and got into a black car in front of the assembled press with his thumb up. He was wearing a face mask. Then it headed for the presidential helicopter, which takes him to the White House.

The president has not fully recovered, but enough to be able to return home safely, his physician Sean Conley had said earlier in the day. In the White House, Trump will enjoy ‘world-class medical care’ around the clock, it was said at the time.

“Don’t let it rule your life, don’t be afraid of it,” Trump said of the virus in a video captured from his White House balcony. “Go outside and be careful.” He emphasized that the US has ‘the best medical equipment and the best medicines’ and that the ‘vaccine will arrive in a minute’. Trump’s attitude to the coronavirus, especially his cornering and minimizing the seriousness of the situation is often criticized.

Fake news

Trump was in Walter Reed Military Hospital in Bethesda, near Washington. Just before he left the hospital, Trump sent out another tweet stating that he will ‘soon’ be resuming his campaign. He already seemed to do that with one controversial car journey when he had not yet been released from hospital. Then he grumbled, also in a tweet, that the ‘fake news only shows fake opinion polls’.

Despite his contamination, he wants to participate in the planned presidential debate, a spokesman reports Fox News barely an hour after he left the hospital. That debate will take place on October 15 in Miami, Florida.

Biden recently tested negative for the virus several times. He said he was ready to participate in the next debate if health experts consider it safe. During the next election debate between Vice President Pence and Vice President candidate Harris, on Oct. 8, there will be a plexiglass screen between them.
