Trump Leads Biden in Latest NBC News Poll: What This Means for the 2024 Election

NEW YORK (Dagbladet): The recent opinion poll from NBC News will probably put a strain on many Democrats. In the national survey, Trump receives support from 47 percent of those surveyed, while 42 percent support Biden. In a similar poll in November, Trump received 46 percent support, while Biden received 44 percent.

– This is the biggest lead Donald Trump has had over Joe Biden in any of NBC’s polls since 2019, says the channel’s well-known statistician, Steve Kornacki, in the program «Meet the Press» Sunday.

Turned

In July last year, for example, Biden led with 49 percent to Trump’s 45 percent. Although the recent poll is within the margin of error, it shows that the former president appears to be sailing with the wind despite being surrounded by a myriad of legal problems.

Although a national poll like this is positive news for Trump, the American electoral system means that this autumn’s presidential election will in all likelihood be decided in a handful of swing states.

– Would be different with Trump

There is also a clear gap in the national opinion polls. At CNN, Trump leads with 49 to 45 percent, as he does in most polls. But in the Quinnipac survey, it is Biden who has a lead of six percentage points with 50 to 44 percent.

According to RealClearPolitics is the average of the national polls now that Trump has 46.7 percent while Biden gets 44.6 percent.

– More difficult

– What is most worrying is how Biden’s position compared to Trump four years ago has crumbled away. On all counts compared to 2020, Biden has regressed. The most damaging thing is that the belief that Biden is able to do the job has disappeared, says Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt from hart Research Associates.

He conducted the poll for NBC News along with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

Apoplectic now!

– It is difficult to imagine more difficult numbers before a re-election, says McInturrf.

The recent survey from NBC also shows that Americans have record low confidence in Biden. Only 37 percent think he is doing a good job, while 60 percent are not satisfied.

– He lost

In NBC’s polls, this is the lowest approval rating for any president since the second term of George W. Bush when he had become very unpopular after the Iraq war.

Kornacki points out how Bush was not running for re-election at the time.

– Now we have a president who is running for re-election in our survey. What did other presidents have at the beginning of the year they won re-election? Bush had over 50 percent. He won. Obama had almost 50 percent. He won. Trump four years ago had 46 percent. He lost, says Kornacki.

Politico: Biden calls Trump “sick as hell”

Nor are the other numbers in the survey particularly pleasant reading for Biden. When asked which of Biden and Trump is better at handling the American economy, Trump leads by 20 percentage points.

Not satisfied

Trump also leads by more than 30 percentage points when asked who is best at handling immigration and the crisis on the border with Mexico.

Trump leads with 16 percentage points when asked who is the most “competent and efficient”, and with 23 percentage points when asked who has the best “mental and physical health to be president”.

– This is how Trump wants to make the world more dangerous

However, Biden leads by twelve percentage points on the abortion question and by two percentage points on the question of who is best at “protecting democracy”.

It is also a small straw for Biden when voters are asked who they support if Trump is convicted before the election on one or more of the 91 counts on which he is indicted. Then a group of voters change their minds and Biden leads with 45 to 43 percent.
