In the seven swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, Trump had a combined approval rating of 47% and Biden 43%. The margin of error for the survey results is plus or minus 1 point.
With the presidential election a year and a month away, Mr. Biden is trailing Mr. Trump in five of the seven states. Although the two candidates are nearly evenly matched nationally, these battleground states could be particularly important in winning the electoral votes needed to win the president.

Fifty-one percent of voters in seven states said the U.S. economy was better under Trump. 49% of respondents said they trust Trump regarding the future of the economy, compared to just 35% for Biden. Among independents, the gap in confidence in economic policy widened even further, with Trump leading by 22 points.
Trump is also more trusted on several other important issues, including immigration and infrastructure. Support for Trump also prevailed in foreign policy, which is often seen as Biden’s forte, such as U.S.-China relations and the war in Ukraine. The Hamas attack on Israel, which occurred midway through the study period, marked one of the most difficult moments of Biden’s presidency.

Economic perception may have the biggest impact on the outcome of the presidential election. Voters in seven states cited the economy as the most important issue. More respondents also expressed confidence in Trump regarding specific financial issues such as the stock market, housing, prices of daily necessities, interest rates, and taxes.

The survey was conducted online between October 5th and 10th among 5,023 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 1 point.
“Right now, Biden’s economic performance is not being rated at all,” said Morning Consult pollster and vice president Caroline Bye. “That’s nearly double the answer. For the Biden campaign, this is a truly surprising fact.”
Only 26% of respondents said Bidenomics was good for the economy, while 49% said it was bad. The numbers are even worse among voters who say the economy is most important, 65% to 14%.

Voters in seven states also supported Trump on infrastructure, 42% to 38%.
Despite positive job market data such as low unemployment rates and rising wages, and a legislative record that includes legislation to build semiconductor factories and boost the green economy, Mr. Biden’s economic management is poorly regarded.
“We are working hard to reach and rally voters with an eye to more than a year ahead,” said Kevin Muñoz, a spokesman for the Biden campaign. By doing so, we will win in 2024.”
Some of Biden’s economic policies are popular. Majorities of voters in seven states say the federal government should play a bigger role in lowering drug prices and improving infrastructure.
The seven states defined as swing states by the Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll represent 93 electoral votes that could determine the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Biden won six of the seven states in 2020, but lost North Carolina by 1.3 percentage points.
