The former president’s lawyers Donald Trump (2017-2021) this Tuesday they asked the judge Juan M. Merchan that the criminal trial against the politician be annulled due to the statements of the porn actress Stormy Danielswho today described in detail what an alleged love affair between the two was like in 2006, but the judge did not accept his arguments.
Daniels described to prosecutors on Tuesday for more than two hours how he had unprotected sex in a luxurious hotel room in Nevada along with many other intimate details.
Merchan agreed with Trump’s legal team that prosecutors should not have asked some of the questions they asked Daniels, but did not think that warranted invalidating the trial.
He also noted that the actress, screenwriter and director of adult films is a “difficult to control” witness. During Daniels’ testimony, the judge himself had to ask the witness to focus on answering the question without giving details that were not relevant.
Likewise, Merchan said Trump’s legal team had to “take some responsibility” for raising few objections during the testimony.
Before Daniels took the stand, Trump’s legal team asked the judge that the actress not testify about “details of any sexual act,” which the judge agreed to.
Over the course of several weeks of the trial, the first of its kind for a former president, Daniels’ former lawyer, Keith Davidsonsaid he negotiated a $130,000 payment in 2016 to keep Daniels silent regarding an affair with the mogul in 2006.
The intermediary in that negotiation was Michael CohenTrump’s former lawyer and right-hand man, who is now expected to be one of the prosecution’s star witnesses.
For its part, Trump’s defense has hinted to the jury that this payment could be considered extortion by the actress and her lawyer.
Trump faces 34 charges, including falsifying business documents to help cover up an extramarital affair with Daniels in 2006 (when he was 59 and she was 27). EFE (I)
