That term is not new. In some ultra-conservative circles, the notion is used for the theory that former President Obama was involved in the FBI investigation of Trump’s former security adviser Michael Flynn.
Contacts with Russia
Flynn was discredited in February 2017 for calling the Russian ambassador to Washington a few weeks earlier. That conversation included the US sanctions against Russia instituted by Obama. To Vice President Pence said Flynn that the consultation only out smalltalk existed.
At the time of the phone call, Obama was still President, so Flynn was not yet in office. That made him punishable. Flynn finally got out yourself, barely a month after he was appointed as national security adviser.
Criticism
Last week, the lawsuit against Flynn, which was still pending, dropped. Former President Obama criticized this. In a conference call held by Yahoo News, he said on Saturday that “the rule of law is at stake”.
With the term Obamagate, President Trump implies that Obama was jointly responsible in 2017 for initiating the FBI investigation into Flynn, says correspondent Marieke de Vries. “Obama would have wanted to use that to kick Trump out of office, is the conspiracy theory of some conservatives.”
