Trump, who officially announced his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election last November, spared nothing and no one during his speech – which lasted an hour and 40 minutes. “We had a Republican party led by monsters, neocons, globalists, fanatics of open borders and imbeciles,” said the ex-president, who also named several of his fellow party members.
American voters, Trump said, are tired of living in a country of “bipartisan-rooted political dynasties, rotten special interests, China-loving politicians and supporters of endless foreign wars.” Trump also openly disapproved of US aid to Ukraine. “We will have a third world war if something is not done soon. I am the only candidate who can make this promise: I will prevent a third world war.”
Trump further called Joe Biden a “criminal” and stated that his administration is “the most corrupt in history.” “If you put me back in the White House, we will be a free nation. We are not a free country right now, we don’t have a free press. We have nothing that is free,” Trump shouted, saying he wants to save the US from becoming a “dirty communist nightmare”.
The annual conservative convention was until recently the most important gathering of conservative leaders in the US, but it has now been almost completely swallowed up by Trump’s far-right Make America Great Again movement. This year’s edition was dominated by some of the nation’s most committed Trumpists but was skipped by many Republican leaders and potential presidential candidates.
