“Trump is a criminal” vs “Harris is incompetent”… America split in two[미 대선]

(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Kwon Young-mi = Cathy and Ken Parker, who live in Duluth, Georgia, USA, walked to the polling place without understanding each other. The couple, who have been married for 34 years, have always disagreed on politics, but the conflict has become especially deep in this election.

Ken, 71, said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump represents law and order. Cathy, 63, who supports Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, responded: “Really? How many times has he been convicted?”

When Ken said he thought the government was behind the attempt to assassinate Trump this summer, Cathy responded that the assassin “could have shot better.”

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 4th (local time), this US presidential election to elect the 47th president is splitting a couple, a village, a state, and the entire United States in two.

Ken had already raised suspicions that the election would be rigged when he went to vote recently. He said people in power “don’t want to lose the power they have, so they will do whatever I think they want.” Cathy looked at him and asked if he really believed that.

The two joke about their differences and tease each other, but have given up on trying to change the other’s mind.

David and Lynn Gold, a married couple from Montrose, Michigan, are passionate supporters of Trump. Both considered Harris incompetent, worried about illegal immigration and wanted Trump to crack down on the border, saying “it’s important to see what he can accomplish.”

However, next to the Trump support sign in the front yard, there was a Biden-Harris sign designed to look like a bullet hole. The couple said they put up the Harris sign in response to someone who previously vandalized a Trump sign.

Yashka Robinson, a black woman in her 40s from Atlanta, is skeptical of both Harris and Trump. But when I asked the question, “Who understands me better,” the answer was clear. Robinson saw Trump as representing wealthy, white Americans and emphasized, “Those people (white people) are different from me.”

Opinion polls show that female voters are supporting Harris, while men are strongly supporting Trump. Democrats are hoping Harris’ final campaign rally will help encourage more women to support her in key states like Georgia.

During Trump’s town hall rally in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, two men put up a Harris-Walls sign. The city itself was a progressive city with a long history of accepting refugees and immigrants as a Democratic-led “Certified Welcome City.”

But the surrounding counties were clearly Republican. Now, as people from all over Pennsylvania flock to the city to see Trump, Lancaster residents Douglas Wickenheiser, 67, and Tom Hassler, 75, wanted to fight back. That’s why they put up a sign to show off.

Politics had a great personal impact on Wickenheiser. He said he hasn’t spoken to his brother since they clashed over Trump in 2016. He remembers his brother saying, “Let’s give that guy a chance.” Wickenheiser thought his brother had been fooled by “propaganda.”

Now, on the streets, those who support Trump and those who support Harris are protesting and criticizing each other. Someone shouted, “The infidels are down the block.”

“A rapist should not be president,” a woman shouted to passing cars.

Then a truck stopped, opened the window, and the male driver responded, “Harris can’t beat Trump.”

The two men began arguing, and the argument ended with the driver shouting, “Close the border,” and the woman shouting, “You rapists.”
