KONTAN.CO.ID – TAIPEI. Policymakers in Taiwan are trying to convince lawmakers who are nervous because Democrat champion Joe Biden will become US president. The Taiwanese government said Biden would continue US support for Taiwan to confront China.

Subsequently, Beijing was outraged by the increase in arms sales by the US and two visits by US high-ranking officials to Taipei in recent months.

In Taiwan’s parliament on Monday, several legislators expressed concern about changes to Taiwan’s policy under Biden’s government, with some describing Biden as being friendly to China.
Several others also pointed to Biden’s opposition to a bill to strengthen Taiwan’s security in 1999.

“There’s no need to worry about changing ownership in the White House. While there may be some changes in Biden’s tactics towards China, there will be no change in his Chinese strategy, “he stressed.
