According to the Wall Street Journal, citing sources close to the family, Trump would be embittered by the lack of support he received from the Republican political structure after the presidential elections last November. The Donald would have liked to continue contesting the electoral results despite the fact that the lawsuits brought were all rejected. The definitive rift, however, appears to have been consumed after the raid of pro-Trump protesters in Congress on January 6. The US newspaper highlights that on January 19, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, once again blamed Trump for the events of January 6. The crowd was fed lies. They were instigated by the president and other influential people, said the Republican, who made clear reference to the allegations of election fraud that Trump has been reiterating for months.

McConnell’s words sound like a divorce already underway. However, among the Republican parliamentarians, many still support the outgoing president, that despite the electoral defeat also enjoys a compact and numerous electorate. The Wall Street Journal, however, does not exclude that the idea of the new party may constitute above all an initiative of an advertising nature, or a media and financial vehicle in support of the president’s companies. No independent candidate or candidate from parties other than the Republican and Democrat has ever achieved a federal-level election victory after 1968, when George Wallas – the segregationist governor of Alabama – won five states as the White House candidate for the American Independent Party.
