Trump Furious, FBI Drops Over US Riot

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) dispatches special agents and analysts to Kenosha, Wisconsin. This is to defuse the ‘deadly’ demonstrations that have taken place in the city since the tragedy of the shooting on Sunday (23/8/2020).

Previously, the demonstration because the police shot at a man named Jacob Blake (29) had made angry residents take to the streets. Riots and arson took place during the demonstration, where two people reportedly died on Tuesday (25/8/2020).

“Working closely with the governor and state and local law enforcement, the Justice Department is deploying federal assets, including from the FBI and US Marshals, to assist in responding to unrest and chaos,” US Justice Department spokesman Kerri Kupec wrote in a statement on Twitter, Thursday (27/8/2020).

The statement was also in response to a post from the previous President Donald Trump. The former businessman who is now competing in the US election said he would send the National Guard again to the scene of the riots.

“We will not support looting, arson, violence, and lawlessness on the streets of America. My team just called Governor (Tony) Evers who agreed to accept federal assistance (Portland should do the same!)” Trump tweeted.

“Today, I will send federal law enforcement and the National Guard to Kenosha, WI (Wisconsin) to restore laws and regulations!”

Meanwhile, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers admitted that he had deployed 500 semi-military National Guard troops. This is the second increase in troop numbers, from 100 to 250 troops.

He said the National Guard would support local law enforcement in Kenosha. This differs from his statement Monday, in which troops are on alert only to protect the city’s assets and buildings.

“This tragedy does not make sense to happen again,” said Evers, commenting on the recent shooting that occurred. “Please carry out (protest) in peace and safety.”

Kenosha itself enforces a curfew from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Demonstrations and riots also spread in a number of cities in other states including New York, Los Angeles and San Diego. According to the local fire department, there were 37 fires and a number of reports of life-threatening gunshot wounds in a number of demonstration point areas.
