Former American president Donald Trump must pay a fine of 10,000 dollars (approximately 9,500 euros) for his comments about a civil lawsuit against him in New York.

Trump had to answer to court because he allegedly failed to comply with a so-called ‘gag order‘ (gag order). He had been instructed not to say anything about court personnel, but on Tuesday he said: “This judge is a very partisan judge, with a person sitting next to him who may be even more partisan than he is.”

According to the judge, he referred to Assistant Judge Allison Greenfield. Trump argued to the judge that he was talking about his former ally Michael Cohen, who testified against him this week. But the judge found that unbelievable. He added: “Don’t do this again or there will be greater consequences.”

Second fine in a short time

It is the second fine imposed on the former president in a short time. Last week he was fined $5,000 for making negative comments about Greenfield.

Judge Arthur Engoron had already imposed a gag order on October 3 in the civil case against Trump, preventing anyone from making negative comments about court employees. Because a negative message from Trump about Greenfield could also be read on social media, he was fined 5,000 euros last week. According to Engoron, negative comments can endanger his court employees.

Real estate company

The case in New York concerns whether Trump and his family tampered with the figures of his real estate company. Trump himself has always denied that his company has committed fraud, according to him the civil case is a politically motivated witch hunt. The case is separate from the criminal investigations into him.

He also has a gag order in the criminal case in which Trump has been charged with attempts to manipulate the 2020 election results. He is no longer allowed to publicly comment on prosecutors, potential witnesses and court employees.
