Special Counsel Jack Smith brings charges against the 45th President of the United States for the second time in two months.
Former US President Donald Trump was accused as part of an investigation into the events that provoked the riots near the Capitol on January 6, 2021. This is reported by CNN with reference to court documents.
There are four charges against the politician:
- conspiracy to deceive the United States,
- conspiracy to obstruct official proceedings,
- obstruction and attempted obstruction of official proceedings,
- conspiracy to forfeit rights.
The media notes that Trump has already been informed of the allegations. We are talking about the consideration of Special Counsel Jack Smith: he is investigating whether Trump violated the law by trying to appeal the results of the 2020 presidential election he lost. It is believed that it was the aftermath of the elections that led to the riots in January 2021. Note that then Trump supporters, who were demonstrating in Washington, broke into the US Congress.
This is the second time two months later that Smith is making accusations against Trump. In June, he was accused of possessing classified documents and colluding with a senior aide to hide them from the government and his own lawyers.
In March, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accused Trump of falsifying business records.
In both cases, the 45th American president pleaded not guilty.
As previously reported, the Political Action Committee spent more than $40 million on legal services to defend Donald Trump.
