According to President Trump’s doctors, things are getting better and better. If everything continues to go so well, the president should be allowed to leave the hospital on Monday. So, like Saturday, Trump’s doctors were again very optimistic about the president’s plight. Yet it also became clear on Sunday that Donald Trump’s condition in recent days has looked less rosy than initially said.
Fever and oxygen
“Everything went well with him on Thursday. Friday morning he had a fever and there was a drop in his oxygen level. I asked if he wanted oxygen, but he refused. He got extra oxygen for an hour anyway and was better later in the day. He also walked around later, but we decided to transfer him to hospital as a precaution, ”said Trump’s doctor Sean Conley. Trump is said to have seen a drop in his oxygen saturation since then, but Conley declined to say exactly how low his oxygen levels had dropped.
It is striking that the same doctor said yesterday that the president had not been given extra oxygen. When asked if the president was given oxygen afterwards, Conley replied that he “should check that with the nurses”. But shouldn’t the physician of one of the most powerful men on earth be aware of such evolutions?
Mysterious about long scan
Journalists also received no answer to questions about the results of the president’s long scans. It is also not clear whether the president has had pneumonia or not. Trump does, however, receive the steroid dexamethasone. These are normally used to treat severe pneumonia and are mainly used in patients with severe symptoms. But nothing is said about pneumonia or a seriously ill president.
Many people from the medical world ask themselves questions about this on Twitter. Dr. Krutika Kuppalli, infectious diseases doctor at the Medical University of South Carolina, tweeted about the lack of clarity. She is trying to understand how the president could be released from hospital tomorrow while dealing with drops in oxygen levels and while on steroids. Kuppalli also made it clear that steroids can cause delirium or confusion. She therefore asks herself why it is not Vice President Mike Pence who is temporarily taking the lead.
