The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has announced that the candidatures of five women are currently being carefully considered for possible nomination for the position of Judge of the US Supreme Court. Tramps will announce its choice on Friday or Saturday. Meanwhile, Democrats and Trump rival Joe Biden are not happy about such a quick judge selection process.
Former Judge of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Beidere Ginzberg last week at the age of 87 after fighting pancreatic cancer look. The Liberal judge gained attention by defending the rights of women and minorities. Ginzberg was the second woman to become a judge of the US Supreme Court. He was nominated for the post in 1993 by then-US President Bill Clinton. According to her, two more women have been confirmed as judges of the Supreme Court – Sonia Sotomajor and Elena Kagana, and both are still in this position.

Even after Ginzberg’s death, Trump was expected to quickly nominate a new Supreme Court judge to strengthen the Conservative majority in that court, while the Republican-led Senate would approve the nomination without delay. During his presidency, Trump has already appointed two conservative judges of the Supreme Court – Nile Gorzach in 2017 and Brett Caveno in 2018.
Trump’s competitor in the upcoming presidential election, Joe Biden, quickly said that a new judge of the Supreme Court should be chosen by the winner of the presidential election, that is, after the election. Trump’s desire to appoint a Conservative representative to court quickly has been described by Biden as an “abuse of power.”
Democrats insist Republican lawmakers must follow the precedent of 2016, when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to consider President Barack Obama’s candidacy for Merick Garland on the grounds that it was election year.
However, the president told reporters at the White House that he wanted to act quickly.
“I think I will announce my choice on Friday or Saturday. The applications of five women are being considered and carefully evaluated. I would like the vote to take place before the elections, because there is a lot of work to be done. I am just doing my constitutional duty, I have a duty to do so, and I would love to see a vote before the election, ”said Trump.
He also stressed that senators will have plenty of time to evaluate and vote for candidates before the November 3 presidential election.
Three women are considered to be the main favorites. The first of these – Amy Konya Barrett – is a legal scholar, a member of the court in Chicago and a favorite among religious conservatives.
Barbara Lagoa, a Cuban judge, the first Spanish judge at the Florida Supreme Court, a member of the Atlanta court and a former federal prosecutor, is also running for office. Kate Commercialford Todd, a White House councilor who has strong support at the White House, also has a good chance.
Many Republicans now believe Trump has a great opportunity to choose his third Conservative judge. If successful, this would strengthen the right-wing majority in court, possibly for decades.
The ideological balance of the nine members of the tribunal is crucial in its rulings on the most important issues in United States law. This court often has the final say on highly controversial laws, disputes between states and the federal government, and the issue of the execution of the death penalty.
