The former president of the United States Donald Trump has declared this Saturday convinced that he will be arrested next Tuesday in the framework of the investigation against him for the alleged payment of a bribe to the porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels.
“They will arrest me on Tuesday,” Trump assured through his Truth Social social network in a message in which he cited an “illegal leak” without giving details about its origin.
In line with his traditional unfounded conspiracy theories, the former president assures that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office that is conducting the investigation against him is financed by the Hungarian investor George Soros, a regular target of criticism from ultranationalist movements such as those defended by Trump during his mandate.
The Manhattan Prosecutor’s Office had offered Trump the possibility of testifying in this case of alleged bribery and in which his lawyer, Michael Cohen, was an instrumental part by giving Clifford some $130,000 to keep quiet that he had alleged relations with the magnate almost 20 years ago. years; a management carried out irregularly by being hidden in the accounts of the Trump Organization, Trump’s company, during the 2016 electoral campaign.
Trump’s former lawyer had met twice this week with prosecutors investigating the payment to Clifford. Although Cohen has not revealed specific details, he was convinced on Friday, in an interview with ABC, that there was plenty of evidence, at least, to charge the former president with a criminal offense; something unprecedented in the country’s history.
Trump ends his message, picked up by Fox News, with a call for the mobilization of his supporters: “Protest, let’s get our country back.”
His legal team has been anticipating for weeks that Trump will end up indicted and is already finalizing his strategy when this happens. According to CNN sources, Trump will appear in Manhattan once the charges are filed and is scheduled to give a speech after the preliminary hearing.
