US President Donald Trump, who has spoken out on the November presidential election method, corrected Wednesday’s controversial statements on Thursday when he suggested to supporters to vote twice, prompting protest reactions.
“Let us send your vote [por correio] and allow them to vote in person, “he said on Wednesday when asked about the system in place in North Carolina, one of the decisive states in the November 3 election.” If your system is as good as they say, then they cannot vote [por duas vezes]”he continued.
For several months now, the White House tenant has questioned the validity of the presidential ballot, considering that the growing recourse by several states to voting by mail due to the covid-19 pandemic could lead to large-scale fraud, despite numerous studies showing that this situation is very unlikely.
In a long series of tweets released today, Trump tried to rectify his statements on Wednesday, saying he intended to urge voters to verify that their vote had been registered.
“TO ENSURE THAT YOUR VOTE COUNTS, SIGN AND SEND YOUR FORM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. On election day or in early voting, go to your polling station to see if your vote has been counted or not. you will be able to vote, and then the postal voting system will have worked correctly, “wrote Trump in his account. “If it hasn’t been counted,” he added, “VOTA (which is the right of any citizen).
In response, North Carolina Electoral Bureau director Karen Brinson Bell recalled that “it is illegal to vote twice during an election”. Bernie Sanders, the former Democratic presidential candidate, vigorously denounced the statements by the head of state.
“For years, Donald Trump lied about ‘electoral fraud’. Today, he calls on the people of North Carolina to commit an offense by voting twice,” he rebelled. “This President does not believe in democracy. He is an authoritarian who must be defeated,” he added.
