Donald Trump is back after two days in Pennsylvania for the first of a flurry of daily themed rallies in swing states, as a counterpoint to the Democratic convention in Chicago. On Monday in York with a focus on the economy and energy, on Tuesday he will talk about the fight against crime in Michigan and the next day in North Carolina about national security together with his vice president JD Vance. Finally, immigration, on Thursday in Arizona and Friday in Nevada: it will be his most intense week of campaigning since the primaries, trying to compete for the spotlight with the Donkey party.
Meanwhile, House Republicans are trying to ruin the party and Joe Biden’s farewell speech on the first day of the event, concluding that he is liable to impeachment for having favored family business when he was vice president, even without recommending the state for impeachment.
“Chicago is a war zone,” the tycoon attacks early in the morning on Truth, recalling the numerous murders in the city and promising to fight crime in America, even if the latest statistics speak of a significant reduction under the Biden presidency. Frustrated by Kamala Harris’s overtaking in the polls and fearing to lose further ground with the expected endorsements of Hollywood stars at the Democratic party, the former president does not hesitate to also post on Truth a series of images of Taylor Swift generated with artificial intelligence, falsely claiming that the pop star has given him the endorsement. “I accept,” he writes after sharing a series of images in which women are seen wearing T-shirts with the words “Swifties for Trump”. Many of these photos seem clearly manipulated while another is from a satirical newspaper in which it was claimed that the cancellation of Taylor’s concerts in Vienna due to a terrorist threat would have convinced the singer to side with Trump. Finally, there is a photo of Swift herself wearing the Uncle Sam costume: the image, also clearly manipulated, is placed next to the message “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump”. The star has not yet expressed her opinion on the vote for the White House but in 2020 she had given her support to Biden, attacking the tycoon for his reaction to the protests over the death of the African American George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police.
Trump also has to deal with far-right influencers, including white supremacist Nick Fuentes, who are threatening a digital “war” against his campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles for their too soft and mainstream positioning on certain issues, from race to immigration. The first move, seen as a victory by the American “far-right”, was to hire “hawks” from the previous campaign, such as the controversial Corey Lewandowski, who was fired in 2021 for sexual harassment.
