President Donald Trump called New York a “ghost town” as he criticized Democratic lockdowns for triggering an economic crisis in cities like the Big Apple during Thursday’s presidential debate.
In the tedious debate, Trump accused Democratic candidate Joe Biden of trying to destroy the economy through lockdowns to stem the coronavirus crisis.
“If you look at what happened in New York, it’s a ghost town. Take a look at what’s going on in New York City. He is dying, ”Trump said on the debate stage in Nashville, Tennessee.
He highlighted how New York City restaurants have been forced to adapt to coronavirus precautions such as using plexiglass and minimizing indoor traffic.
“When you talk about plexiglass, restaurants are dying. These are businesses with no money. Putting in plexiglass is incredibly expensive and it is not the solution. I mean, are you going to sit there in a cubicle wrapped in plastic? he said.

“These are businesses that a dying Joe, you can’t do that to people,” he added in a direct blow to Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s strict lockdown measures.
Take a look at New York and what happened to my wonderful city. For so many years I loved it, it was vibrant. He is dying, everyone is leaving New York, ”the president said.
But Biden pointed to the human toll from the virus which has seen more than 8 million Americans infected.
“Take a look at what New York has done in terms of reducing the curve, in terms of the number of people who have died,” Biden said.
The former vice president said he does not see ‘red states’ and ‘blue states’ but blamed GOP heads of state for creating larger coronavirus spikes with measures casual.
Look at the states that have such a peak in the coronavirus. It’s the Red States, or the Midwestern states, or the Upper Midwestern states – this is where the spike is significantly occurring, but they’re all Americans, ”Biden said.
Biden underscored the coronavirus protective measures, but also said businesses needed government financial assistance to bring the pandemic to fruition.
