If you saw a post on Facebook saying that former President Donald Trump wants to impose the death penalty on any immigrant, you should know what else he said about that proposal.
“‘I AM ASKING FOR THE MU3RT3 PENALTY FOR ANY MIGRANT’. Trump makes an unexpected confession of what he will do if he wins the elections”, dice a post from October 23. This has a picture of Trump at a campaign event.
The post was flagged as part of Meta’s effort to combat fake news and misinformation on its platform. (Read more about our collaboration with Metaowner of Facebook and Instagram).
The post includes a link to a article where it is specified that Trump will ask to establish the death penalty for migrants who murder Americans. But the text users see on Facebook doesn’t include that context.
The article mention that Trump said that at an October 22 campaign rally in Greensboro, North Carolina.

“I call for the death penalty for any immigrant who kills a US citizen or law enforcement officer,” said Trump on October 22.
Trump has repeated this several times.
At one of his October 11 campaign events in Reno, Nevada, he said that called for “the death penalty for any migrant who kills a U.S. citizen or law enforcement officer.”
The surveys show that voters are concerned about immigration and border issues.
The Facebook post ignores key context — Trump said he will seek the death penalty for immigrants who murder Americans or law enforcement officers. He didn’t say he would ask for this for “any” immigrant.
