US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have agreed to a September 10 election debate on ABC News. Both candidates have confirmed their attendance.
“I’m hearing that Donald Trump has finally agreed to a debate with me on September 10. I’m looking forward to it,” Harris wrote on X. Earlier in the day, Trump had confirmed at a co- press release that he wants to debate on September 10, as he said earlier when Joe Biden seemed to be still the Democratic candidate. This was his first public appearance since Harris was chosen as the Democratic presidential candidate and Tim Walz as her running mate.
Trump also wants to debate Harris two more times: on September 4 and 25 on Fox News and NBC News. The Harris camp has yet to respond to this. When asked by an NBC reporter on X, Harris only said she was looking forward to the Sept. 10 debate.
This is the first time that Trump and Harris debate each other directly. Earlier, ABC’s election debate was called into question after Trump revealed that deals he made with Biden were about this was invalid. Trump said he only wanted to debate Harris on September 4 on Fox News, a channel that is more favorable to ABC News. Harris then said that the Republican was too afraid to debate her.
