Trump also wins in New Hampshire, only opponent Haley remains in the race | Abroad

Donald Trump also won the Republican primaries in the American state of New Hampshire on Tuesday night. The American former president trumps his last remaining rival Nikki Haley, report American media and polling agency Edison Research.

Now that about 90 percent of the votes have been counted, it appears that Trump has 54.6 percent of the votes. Former UN Ambassador Haley has to make do with 43.1 percent.

Haley already congratulated her opponent on his victory and said Trump “deserved” the win. In her speech, Haley emphasized that she is not dropping out of the race yet. As a result, Trump has not yet received the nomination as Republican presidential candidate.

Last week, Trump also won the first primary in the state of Iowa. The next primaries are in Nevada (February 6) and the Virgin Islands (February 8). These are seen as less decisive.

The most important primary where Haley and Trump will face each other is on February 24 in South Carolina. Haley served as governor of that state from 2011 to 2017. If she does not achieve a good result there, there is a chance that she will abandon the fight.

Haley is the last remaining challenger to Trump since Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race last weekend. In the polls, Trump has a large lead over his last rival to become the Republican presidential candidate.

Biden not on ballot, but wins

The Democrats also held primaries in New Hampshire. Incumbent President Joe Biden was not on the ballot, but still emerged as the winner.

Biden was missing from the form due to a dispute over the order of the primaries. The Democrats wanted the first primary to take place in South Carolina. But New Hampshire has laid down in its legislation that it will not let any other state take the lead.

Voters could enter Biden’s name in an empty box, a so-called write-in. So many people did that that Biden left his Democratic opponents Dean Phillips and Marianne Williamson far behind.

With just under half of the mainly handwritten votes counted, the president has 68 percent of the votes. Philips, who was on the ballot, is second with 20 percent. According to the polls, Philips and Williamson have no chance of trumping Biden.

After Trump’s win, Biden announced that there will be a new battle between him and the Republican. “It is now clear that Trump will win the Republican candidacy,” Biden’s team wrote in a statement. “And my message to the country could not be clearer: our freedom and economy are at stake.”
