The former financial director of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselbergpleaded guilty this Monday to lying on two occasions, in a previous statement and during his testimony in the civil fraud trial against the former president Donald Trump (2017-2021) last year in NY.
The 76-year-old executive admitted lying under oath and faces five months in jail when he is sentenced on April 10.
The first time was during a court-ordered pretrial deposition, given under oath before the New York Attorney General’s office, and the second was on the stand at Trump’s civil trial on October 10, 2023.
Weisselberg worked for half a century for the Trump family and in 2022 he pleaded guilty to 15 crimes of tax fraud – after a pact with the authorities – for directing a complex tax fraud scheme in the Trump Organization, after which he served a sentence of about three months in prison.
The former Trump employee did not speak to reporters when he left Manhattan Criminal Court today, but his lawyer later told the media in a statement that his client “looks forward to putting this situation behind him.”
Weisselberg has been the main witness in three of Trump’s court cases and could be key in the criminal trial against the former president in New Yorkwhich begins later this month with jury selection.
Weisselberg first worked for the former president’s father, Fred Trump, and then for Donald since 1986, helping him expand his company beyond its New York headquarters. EFE (I)
