The Trump administration has designated Cuba as a terrorist support country.
According to Reuters on the 11th (local time), US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement that “Cuba is designated as a terrorist support country.”
The sanctions are interpreted as President Donald Trump’s intention to hinder the next administration’s move to improve relations by easing pressure on Cuba.
Accordingly, the number of countries supporting terrorism that is subject to US sanctions has increased from the existing three countries in North Korea, Iran and Syria to four. States that support terrorism are designated by the US State Department for countries that the State Department deems accused of directly participating in or assisting in international terrorist acts. Countries designated as terrorist support countries are subject to various restrictions, such as a ban on arms exports, a ban on foreign aid, and trade sanctions.
