PHOENIX – Former US President Donald Trump raised $160 million for his campaign in September and heads into October with $283 million in the bank for the final stretch of his campaign, his advisors announced.
The September fundraising figure, which the Trump campaign released Wednesday, is higher than the $130 million it reported raising in August. The amount covers money raised by the Trump campaign and affiliated committees.
Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival, has not yet released her fundraising numbers for the full month, but previously released numbers suggest she will surpass Trump’s haul.
Harris aides have said she raised $55 million during a fundraising tour of California last weekend alone, which included campaign events in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The previous weekend, he raised $27 million at a packed fundraiser in New York City, which at the time was his biggest fundraising haul since succeeding President Joe Biden on the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a Harris campaign aide.
Trump has proven to be a prolific fundraiser, but Harris’ candidacy has sparked a cash rush from Democratic donors.
Although Harris has much more money than Trump, the former president is getting a boost from expensive advertising from deep-pocketed outside groups that support him.
“These supporters have allowed us to deposit the funds we need as we move into the final weeks of the campaign,” Brian Hughes, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, said in a statement. “Our momentum continues to grow thanks to supporters and donors across the country as we approach the home stretch toward victory.”
