The ex-president has already been accused several times of having tried to overturn the election results in various US states, including in Georgia, where a trial against him is ongoing.
In phone recordings disclosed by The Detroit News, Trump is said to have pressured two local voters in Michigan not to sign the certification of the election results in their counties.
He also allegedly told two Republican members of a Wayne County election board that “we have to fight for our country” and “we can’t let these people take our country away from us.”
The phone calls took place two weeks after the November 3, 2020 presidential election, in which Michigan was one of the states Trump lost to Joe Biden.
The new charges in Michigan come as Trump prepares for the busiest period of his campaign to become president again in 2024.
Trump, 77, is due to stand trial in Washington in March on federal charges of conspiring to rig the 2020 election after the Democrats won.
