Donald Trump spoke publicly this Thursday for the first time since the election night – he made the usual accusations and, as usual, gave no evidence. “If we count the legal votes, I win easily,” he said. But all of the votes that are being counted at this time comply with the law of the country.
After rejoicing in what he considers to be the Republican victory in the Senate (an unconfirmed victory) and having highlighted what he said were the historic results of votes in the Republican Party by the “non-white voters” – where he included Latinos and Afro- Americans – Trump said the polls of the past few days were rigged and used to prevent Republican voters from voting – argued that the fact that polls give Democrats victory has demobilized the Republican constituency. He also criticized the work of the press, which he considered to have been “unfair”.
“It is a corrupt system and it makes people corrupt even when they are not by nature,” he accused. “They find out how many votes they need and find a way to get them. We saw this, for example, in North Carolina: we were way ahead on election night, and although we are still ahead, the distance is not so great. They got the votes they needed. And it’s funny how these later votes are only for one side. ” (note: a large number of Republican voters voted in person, while a large proportion of Democratic voters voted by post due to the pandemic – and the votes initially counted were in person and then those that arrived by post, hence the fact that Trump lost advantages in several states as the count evolved (and this had already been explained before the elections) In Georgia, Trump continued, “we went from a point where I was winning by a lot to being winning by less”.
“There will be a lot of lawsuits” in the courts, threatened Trump, who believes he will “win easily”. “We cannot have an election stolen in this way,” he said at the press conference. “I had already said many times that postal votes were going to end in disaster. This is a large-scale fraud and is increasing every day. ” And then, in a record that has not been very common, he continued: “It is not a question of who wins: whether me or Joe. What can we not that such a disgrace [uma eleição roubada] happen in our country ”.
Trump also reconfirmed that he will turn to the Supreme Court. “There was a lot of confusion and we cannot admit it in our country. This should end at the highest level in the USA ”, he defended. Without presenting any proof of what he said, the American president listed a series of episodes in various parts of the country that he considers “not very transparent”, “corrupt” and that, consequently, gave rise to the blue wave, something that Trump denied to be real – without providing evidence. In the case of the cities of Detroit (in the state of Michigan, where Biden’s victory has already been declared) and Philadelphia (in Pennsylvania, where votes are still counted), Trump even considered that they are two of the “most corrupt cities in the country ”.
After a few minutes of speaking, he left the press conference room without answering any questions from journalists. Shortly before he said: “They are trying to steal the election and we cannot leave”. But Trump left the room without leaving evidence of the charges he made.
