The much-anticipated summit of US and Russian Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin in Geneva was a good day for Russia in many parts of the world, former US President Donald Trump admitted on Fox News on Wednesday night.
Biden gave Putin a present, giving the Kremlin landlord a star-worthy role on the world stage, Trump told Fox News reporter Sean Hanity.
“We didn’t get anything. We gave Russia a big stage, and we didn’t get anything,” the president stressed on television on Wednesday night.
“It was a good day for Russia,” he added. “I don’t see what we got out of it.”
Trump’s assessment was echoed by his Republican allies, who said Putin had not made any significant concessions during the meeting, which lasted less than three hours at La Grange in Geneva.
Biden and Putin have tried to give a positive assessment to Wednesday’s summit, describing the meeting as “constructive”, although they failed to make much progress in the talks.
The leaders agreed to return to the negotiating table on nuclear disarmament, agreed to exchange ambassadors, resume full-fledged work of their embassies in the opposing capitals, and work on prisoner exchanges.
