Louisville Radio Station Makes Surprise Format Switch
In a surprising twist to the Louisville, Kentucky, radio landscape, 1570 WLRS and 92.5 W223DK,owned by New Albany Broadcasting Company, have traded their holiday cheer for a blast from the past. After spending several months as the “first all-Christmas station” of 2024, as reported by Radio Insight, the stations unexpectedly flipped to an oldies format on New Year’s eve.
The new format, branded as “Kentuckiana’s True Oldies,” as seen on their website, marks a meaningful change for the stations. Rather of festive holiday tunes, listeners are now treated to a curated selection of classic hits.
Adding to the excitement, the station, operated by Pure Radio LLC under a Local Marketing Agreement (LMA), will incorporate programming from the popular “Scott Shannon’s True Oldies Channel” network. However, the station isn’t solely relying on syndicated content. It will also feature a familiar voice to Louisville radio listeners: Joe Fedele.
Fedele, a veteran of the Louisville airwaves, brings a wealth of experience to the new venture. His impressive career includes a stint as program director and morning host at Classic Hits 620 WAKY/103.5 WAKY-FM from 2014 until his retirement in late 2022.He’s also a recognizable voice from his time at 103.1 WRKA and his remarkable 22-year run at 106.9 WVEZ.
This unexpected format shift is sure to generate buzz among Louisville radio enthusiasts, prompting speculation about the future of the market and the potential success of this nostalgic programming choice. The return of a beloved local personality like Joe Fedele adds another layer of intrigue to this story.
