True Detective’s audience is used to change. In each season, since its debut a decade ago, the protagonist detectives change and the story moves location. That happens again in True Detective: Night Land, the fourth cycle of the series, which arrives next Sunday, January 14, on HBO and HBO Max. After passing through Louisiana, Southern California and the Ozarks, the production settles in a fictional Alaskan town called Ennis, where a disconcerting mystery unfolds.
In that town near the Arctic Circle, police chief Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) and state police officer Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis) meet again, a duo that collaborated in the past and abruptly separated. Her meeting is precipitated by the strange disappearance of a group of scientists of multiple nationalities, and Navarro’s suspicion that this scene could have a connection to a crime involving a Native American woman that obsessed her years ago.

“Although they don’t admit it now, because they hate each other, they were very good working together and they know it,” Kali Reis tells Culto. “Navarro is almost internally screaming at Danvers that she sees her. He understands her very well. They are almost a mirror of each other. “Their relationship is about having a real love and connection, and a deep mutual respect for each other’s abilities.”
Born in Rhode Island in 1986, Reis built a successful career as a boxer before jumping into acting. Her debut was in Catch the Fair One (2021), a film that earned her a nomination at the Independent Spirit Awards for her portrayal of a former boxing champion who joins a sex trafficking ring to find her sister. she missing from her.
Due to her Cape Verdean and Native American ancestry, she says she feels reflected in the dilemma that lies within her character in True Detective. “Navarro lives between two worlds and is immersed in something that she is not a part of.
