FLORIDA – At least one person was killed and another injured when a truck crashed into a crowd of marchers LGBT of Decat Fort Laurdale, Florida, United States of America (US). The mayor of Fort Laurdale called the incident a deliberate attack, targeting a member of Congress.

The incident happened just as the Wilton Manors Stonewall Pride Parade began on Saturday night. A white pickup truck drove, reportedly towards Democratic Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s car, but instead crashed into a business premises and hit two people, one of whom did not survive their injuries.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, who was present at the march, told local media that the suspected assailant’s car missed the MP’s vehicle inches before destroying the gate, crashing into a landscaping company and hitting two people.

A video shared on social media shows police officers arresting a man wearing a white T-shirt and sunglasses at the scene.

While the Broward County Sheriff’s Office reported that two people were “hit by a vehicle” while marching to celebrate “inclusion and equality,” they did not say if the incident was a premeditated attack.

However, the Mayor seemed to have little doubt that the collision was intentional.

“This is a terrorist attack against the LGBT community. It’s exactly like that,” said Trantalis.

“It was intentional, planned and targeted against a specific person. Luckily they missed that person, but unfortunately, they hit two other people,” he added as quoted from Russia Today, Sunday (20/6/2021).
