Highway A73 is temporarily closed between Haps and Malden after an accident with a truck. Traffic heading towards Nijmegen is recommended to drive via Eindhoven.
The accident with the truck carrying household waste happened early this morning. The car left the road for unknown reasons. The truck overturned and ended up on the two lanes, some of the waste ended up on the roadside.
Recovery of the truck is complex. According to a spokesperson for the ANWB, the A73 will not be reopened until around noon. Although it is now advised to drive via Eindhoven (A67, A2 and A50), many motorists try via provincial roads and the villages of Haps and Oeffelt. The two-lane roads there are now full. “You see that people are taking detours locally,” said the spokesperson.
In the other direction, towards Maasbracht and Venlo, one lane of the A73 is closed because the center guardrail was damaged in the accident. That also leads to delays.
