Truck Fire Causes Kilometer-Long Traffic Jam on Trakia Highway

A truck caught fire at km 270 on the Trakia highway. Viewers of bTV write that a kilometer-long traffic jam has formed. They submitted video footage to our I the Reporter platform.

The incident was reported to the fire station in Sliven around 9:20 am. The truck caught fire in the direction of Burgas. He was transporting glue. Dry grasses and bushes around were also on fire. There were no injuries.

The driver, who is a Bulgarian citizen, was transporting shoe glue in metal boxes when a tire burst while in motion and the cargo caught fire.

In the first minutes, the driver tried to put out the fire himself and managed to unhook the trailer with the burning glue. Two teams of the fire department in Sliven, two from Nova Zagora and one from Yambol were sent to the scene of the accident.

After 11 a.m., the fire was brought under control, Commissioner Vladimir Demirev, head of the fire department in Sliven, told bTV. According to him, it will take time to completely extinguish it, because the glue is in metal cans that burn for a long time.

There is gassing over the highway and therefore, at the request of the police, the section from the 235th to the 277th km is closed in both directions.

The police report that traffic on the Trakia highway in the section from Yambol to Nova Zagora is closed. PBZN teams are processing the accident.

Traffic is regulated by police teams. Those traveling to Burgas stop at the road junction for Nova Zagora. Those traveling to Sofia turn off at the junction for Yambol along the old road to Nova Zagora.
