Truck Driver Charged in Fatal Vinje Accident: Man in 60s Confirmed Dead

A man in his 60s has been confirmed dead as a result of the accident.

This is confirmed by the task leader in the South-East police district, Karl Martin Rugstad, to NRK.

Relatives must be notified.

It was just before 2 p.m. that the police responded to a report of a serious accident in Vinje.

– A concrete wall collapsed over a car in connection with work with a lorry on site, says Rugstad.

One person was trapped in the car.

– After we got rid of the mass and got to the person, it became clear that the person in the car was dead.

The brick wall must have been 15 by 9 metres.

The driver of the lorry is physically unharmed, but has the status of being charged in the case.

Forensic technicians will work at the site throughout the evening, says the team leader.

Crisis teams have been established

The municipality’s crisis team is prepared to assist anyone who needs support after the accident, says business manager for health and coping in Vinje municipality, Carsten Hald.

– It is a terrible incident and it is clear that many people are affected by something like this.

The deceased man is originally from another municipality. Vinje municipality therefore mainly assists the lorry driver and others who were present during the incident.

– Now it’s about standing together and supporting each other in such a difficult situation. That is what we are trying to assist with, says Hald.
