Truck Congestion on South Ring Road Causes Delays at Ciwandan Harbor

Cilegon

Congestion on the South Ring Road (JLS) Cilegon occurred from night until early morning. The route to Ciwandan Harbor was filled with trucks that wanted to cross to Sumatra.

Hundreds of trucks were stuck in traffic jams and some even waited 8 hours but had not yet entered the ship. Truck drivers feel the loss due to long queues.

“I was stuck at 7 pm after maghrib, dawn (03.00 WIB) and I haven’t boarded the ship yet,” said a truck driver bound for Medan, Real to journalists, Sunday (15/4/2023).

“There must be a loss, the loss will definitely add to our food money, right,” he said.

He himself felt dizzy with the policy of diverting crossings from Merak to Ciwandan. The signs on the toll road, he said, only direct trucks to leave East Cilegon.

“In our opinion, it’s more complicated, the signs on the toll road are specifically for trucks arriving in East Cilegon,” he said.

Before lining up to enter the ship at Ciwandan Port, the driver had time to go to Merak until finally the truck management told him to turn back to Ciwandan Port because Merak Port is reserved for private vehicles.

“Our crossing representative directed (to Ciwandan), we had already been to Merak, come back here again,” he said.

Before the first wave of homecoming took place, President Joko Widodo asked that management arrangements for homecoming flow be improved so that travelers would not linger on the road and get stuck in traffic jams. Jokowi also asked the Minister-Mayor to go directly to the field.

Jokowi’s request was made while visiting the Port of Merak, Banten. Jokowi held a limited meeting with the Minister of Transportation, the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Chief of the National Police and the Minister of BUMN, the Managing Director of ASDP to the Acting Governor of Banten.

“I really hope that why I’m here, I want to make sure that everything we hope for goes well and the people are really well served, no one feels they are lingering on the road, lingering at the port, there are traffic jams, that’s me. what do I expect,” Jokowi said at Merak Harbor, Tuesday (11/4/2023).
