Trouble over Barça transfer: Neymar has to go to court – imprisonment is imminent

Neymar, here on November 3, 2021, faces a court in Spain.

Brazil’s superstar Neymar has to answer in court. The reason is his move from FC Santos to FC Barcelona in 2013. The 30-year-old could even face a two-year prison sentence.

That would be a real hammer: football superstar Neymar (30) faces a prison sentence!

The Brazilian faces possible irregularities in his transfer from FC Santos to FC Barcelona in the summer of 2013.

Prosecutors are looking for two years in prison for Neymar

The trial will take place in Barcelona between October 17 and October 31, French news agency AFP reports, citing sources close to the court.

In addition to Neymar, who has been playing for Paris Saint-Germain since 2017, former Barça presidents Sandro Rosell (58) and Josep Maria Bartomeu (59) have to answer in court. They are accused of corruption and fraud.

According to media reports, the public prosecutor’s office should serve a two-year prison sentence Demand Neymar, who should also pay a fine of ten million euros.

Barça originally put the transfer value at 57.1 million euros (40 million for Neymar’s family, 17.1 for Santos), but later had to admit 83.3 million as the true figure.

The starting point of the proceedings is a lawsuit by the Brazilian investment fund DIS, which is said to have owned 40 percent of the rights to the player at the time Neymar was transferred from FC Santos to Spain. DIS had therefore sued Neymar, his father, those responsible for Barca and those from Santos. (sid/tsc)
