King Charles III will be crowned on 6 May 2023 in Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace announced. This, in turn, could ruin the English Premier League schedule at the end of the season, according to British media.

Charles, 73, inherited the crown after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, whose passing has already changed the agenda of England’s elite football as all sporting events in Britain have been postponed. There is a high probability that this will also happen along with the coronation of Charles III on May 6 (Saturday).

According to the BBC, there isn’t a long ceremony with many guests, quite the opposite, and by comparison in 1953 the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II lasted four hours.

The expectations are that the ceremony on May 6 will be in the morning, but the matches of the same weekend could also be postponed. For now, May 6 and 7 next year are a long way off, with start times and TV schedule yet to be confirmed, and Premier League bosses should seriously consider postponing matches as the season is expected to end on May 29.

There is a huge possibility that the fighting in London cannot take place on May 6 and 7, due to a lack of police. Law enforcement will be involved in the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey. According to the May 6 schedule, three matches are expected to take place in the English capital: Fulham meet Leicester, Tottenham face Crystal Palace in a clash in London and West Ham host Manchester United.
