Former cross-country skiing king Petter Northug has been sentenced to seven months in prison for repeated serious traffic offenses and drug possession. A court in Oslo found him guilty of significantly exceeding the speed limit several times, for which the 13-time world champion also lost his driver’s license for life. According to his lawyer, he accepted the verdict and will not appeal.

He recently publicly admitted that he also has problems with drugs. The last time a police patrol stopped him was in August due to a fast drive, he then found a small amount of cocaine in the house. He was not under the influence of drugs while driving.
However, investigators found videos on the mobile phone that Northug had shot and sent to friends during the frantic drive. According to the court, this fact may lead to similar acts by others.
