The Swiss national ice hockey team is getting a new jersey because the application deadline was missed.
The Swiss Ice Hockey Federation has decided to accept the Federal Administrative Court’s ruling of October 15th, as the association wrote in a short report on Thursday.
Since the revised Coat of Arms Protection Act came into force in 2017, only the Confederation has been allowed to use the Swiss coat of arms. Clubs and companies that have used the coat of arms for 30 years could apply for further use within two years.
The ice hockey association missed this deadline, which expired at the end of 2018. A month ago, the Federal Administrative Court held that the Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IGE) rightly did not respond to the association’s 2021 application.
“Subject to a revision of the Coat of Arms Protection Act,” the jersey will be redesigned from January 1, 2027, the ice hockey association wrote on Thursday.
“We were able to reach an agreement that was consistent with us with the Institute for Intellectual Property, which is why the discussion about the Swiss coat of arms is now over.”
The association “takes note” of the efforts to change the Coat of Arms Protection Act.
