The storm was moving southwest at about two miles per hour. “This general motion is expected to continue through Saturday night” and then make “a gradual turn toward the west and northwest on Sunday,” the National Hurricane Center said, adding that the storm surge generated by Philippe will affect Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles.

For its part, the National Meteorological Service in San Juan reported that rain bands associated with the storm could reach the Island between tonight and tomorrow, Saturday.

“Despite the expected distance, an outer band will likely extend across the local islands from tonight to Saturday night, causing a gradual increase in humidity,” the entity explained.
