The Government of Michoacán will request a declaration of natural disaster due to damage in the state
Morelia, Michoacán on September 29, 2024.- The passage of Tropical Storm “John” has left impacts in municipalities such as Huetamo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Arteaga, San Lucas, Apatzingán, Aquila and Coahuayana, for this reason the Government of Michoacán will request the federation declared a natural disaster to address the damage.
In the Las Guacamayas estate, in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas, 10 families have been evacuated and 8 have been evacuated at the foot of the river.
“The rain has beaten us in some areas in Guacamayas, the canal in Veladero has already overflowed there, the current has gone down very strongly, tell the people that we are going to be supporting them in evacuating and bring them to the shelters, even Right now the report is that it is only an overflow of the canals, we have been working so that hopefully they do not break,” said the municipal president of Lázaro Cárdenas, Manuel Esquivel.
The rising of the Balsas River, after the opening of the gates of the Infiernillo and La Villita dam to release water, generated flooding in several areas of the municipality.
“They are telling us that they are going to continue venting into the Balsas River, all the people who are nearby please go to a shelter, I understand that sometimes we don’t want to leave our houses, but tonight they are going to release and Tomorrow they will make a bigger release, there is a lot of water that needs to be released, the people from Civil Protection will go to notify them that if they want, we will support them to get out, I think they should help us to be able to help them, it is prevention, I hope it doesn’t happen to older people, there is worse “We have to be prepared,” he said.
Likewise, another of the affected municipalities is Huetamo, where an emerging plan was implemented to care for people affected by the meteorological phenomenon, mainly in the towns of Tziritzícuaro, Carácuaro, Arroyo Seco and San Jerónimo.
For this, six temporary shelters have been set up, where with the support of the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Public Security and the Regulatory Center for Medical Emergencies (CRUM), some inhabitants were transferred.
Uruapan and Jiquilpan joined the affected points, in this case due to the landslide on roads.
At the state level, there was damage to 16 roads and bridges, such as the Cuatro Caminos-Lázaro Cárdenas freeway, where a breakage occurred, which split the Cuates bridge, in the Cupuancillo community, La Huacana municipality.
There were landslides and collapses on the roads that connect Uruapan with Copetiro, San Juan Nuevo, Tancítaro and Lombardía, which have already been repaired.
