Tropical storm Estelle moves this Saturday to the south of the Pacific Ocean coast, which will cause intense rains that could generate landslides and floods in Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán and Guerrero, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN).
“The rainfall, which will be with electrical discharges, strong winds and hail could generate landslides, increase in the levels of rivers and streams, overflows and flooding in low-lying areas,” he explained.
The SMN announced that the cloud bands of this storm, in interaction with a low pressure channel over western and central Mexico, will cause intense punctual rains in regions of Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán and Nayarit.
The Mexican meteorological service asked maritime navigation to take extreme precautions due to conditions of strong winds and high waves.
In addition, it forecast wind with gusts of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour and waves of 2 to 4 meters high on the coasts of Colima, Guerrero and Michoacán, in the Mexican Pacific.
Storm Estelle was located approximately 500 km southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero, and 615 km south-southeast of Manzanillo, Colima.
The SMN explained that after raising its degree, Estelle reached maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour this Saturday, gusts of 110 kilometers per hour and a displacement to the northwest at 17 kilometers per hour.
“According to the forecast models, Estelle will follow a path parallel to the Mexican Pacific, which is why it remains under surveillance,” he added.
Likewise, the SMN predicted very heavy rains in areas of the State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Oaxaca, Sinaloa and Sonora and strong in areas of Chiapas, Mexico City, Durango, Morelos, Puebla, Veracruz and Zacatecas.
In addition, intervals of showers in Aguascalientes, Campeche, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Hidalgo, Querétaro, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Tlaxcala, as well as isolated rains in Baja California, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo and Yucatán.
