Tropical Storm Bret Intensifies in the Central Atlantic

The Institute of Meteorology has issued tropical cyclone advisory number four for Tropical Storm Bret, stating that it continues to gain organization and intensity in the mid-Atlantic. Currently, the storm has maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour and a minimum central pressure of 1000 hectoPascal.

As of six in the afternoon, the central region of Bret was located at 13.3 degrees north latitude and 54.0 degrees west longitude. This positions the storm approximately 595 kilometers east of Barbados, in the southern group of the Lesser Antilles. Bret is moving west with a translation speed of 24 kilometers per hour.

Over the next 12 to 24 hours, Tropical Storm Bret is expected to maintain a similar course and experience little change in intensity. However, it will increase its speed before affecting the Lesser Antilles Arc tomorrow, Thursday afternoon. Conditions are anticipated to be less favorable for its development during its transit through the eastern Caribbean Sea.

The next tropical cyclone advisory for Tropical Storm Bret will be issued at six in the afternoon tomorrow, Thursday.
