What did you miss?
The Julianakanaal between Berg aan de Maas and Born is closed to all shipping as of today. Rijkswaterstaat is making the Limburg canal deeper and wider, so that larger ships can pass through it in the future. It is a mega project for which the busy canal is being drained over a length of four kilometers.
Ships have to sail for months on the Maas or via Belgium via the Albert Canal. The disruption to shipping is great, because ships that sail via Belgium have to go through the Zeeland Kreekrak locks. These are located in the Scheldt-Rhine Canal and are under maintenance until the end of September, which means that skippers have to take into account waiting times of up to ten hours.
