– The municipal director has convened an extra crisis management meeting The municipal health services are under pressure, as is the hospital due to both covid and flu season. This means that we must discuss the situation and what must be done to ensure the health services of our citizens, writes Trondheim mayor Rita Ottervik (Labor) in an SMS to Dagbladet.
Trondheim municipality is experiencing a large increase in cases of infection. A new infection record was set on Tuesday, with 218 new infections. On Monday, the number was 172.
On Wednesday afternoon, an extra crisis meeting will therefore be held in the municipality. It was Adresseavisen who first mentioned the case.
Concerned about reduced vaccine effect
– Serious situation
– I consider that we have a serious situation where our employees, especially in the health services, experience great work pressure. I am worried about our health and care services, and we must secure the services of our citizens, Ottervik writes.
Due to the great pressure of infection in recent days, it will no longer be possible for the infection control office to call the infected cases, who will instead receive an SMS with instructions.
On Tuesday, the municipality issued a recommendation on the use of face masks in public places where it is not possible to keep at least one meter away.
– This is especially true on buses or other public transport where you sit or stand close to each other for a while, said municipal chief physician Tove Røsstad.
On Tuesday, the level of preparedness at St. Olav’s hospital was also raised to yellow.
– Goes sick at school
Most under 20 years
Most of those infected are under 20 years old. Figures from Tuesday show that 92 are in the age group 10-20, while 46 are in the age group 0-10.
– We see that the spread of infection mainly takes place among unvaccinated people, or people who have received only one dose. This is especially true for children and young people. Although we register many cases of infection, not many people become seriously ill, as many are protected by the vaccines, said municipal chief physician Røsstad to Dagbladet on Tuesday.
Opposite Adresseavisen, Ottervik asks the Minister of Education to come on the field, and lift the absence limit for students in upper secondary school.
