There were people in the city of Tromsø who had noticed that the man was walking around with a live seagull in his hand – and they informed the police.
When a police patrol called the man, he had released the bird, but those who called the police had also taken pictures of the man and the bird.
– When the police contacted us, he said he forgot his name. But we found an ID on him, says operations manager Eirik Kileng in the Troms police district to NTB.
The man is reported to have refused to give personal information to the police. It is up to the police lawyer to decide whether the report will also apply to the relationship with the seagull, said the operations manager.
It is not known why the man was carrying the seagull around. The police informed about the incident at about 1.45 am on Sunday.
Seagulls are completely peaceful in Norway all year round. It is forbidden to shoot or catch seagulls, and it is also forbidden to damage or destroy nests and eggs, according to Norwegian Food Safety Authority.
